My favorite type of story: The renowned Bauer Pottery, which purchased and moved into one different longtime ceramics manufacturing facility, has discovered many aged, genuine molds from now-defunct California ceramics firms among the many many things left behind. Now, they’re beginning to breed a couple of of those treasures. Certainly one of many first revived merchandise: The Brayton-Laguna Pottery Cat — a statuesque mid century fashionable magnificence that stands 16″ tall. I repeat, agog: Genuine tooling! Genuine mould! AND, I came across the title of the circa-1960 designer!
I predict this gorgeous feline shall be an infinite hit — unbelievable reward! — it makes pretty the assertion, the pricing is inexpensive, and it has a fascinating provenance. Hey, the Guggenheim has even added this cool cat to their reward retailer! Meow!
Many as a result of reader Katherine for this tip! Reader/tipsters, you rock my world!
Who designed this Brayton-Laguna Cat? Jack Chipman is conscious of!
I did just a bit on-line evaluation to be taught additional about Brayton-Laguna Pottery. I felt like this story from e book author Jack Chipman was primarily essentially the most authoritative. Brayton-Laguna employed many artists to make their designs, and diving into the google rabbit hole, I could not uncover any information on exactly who designed this cubist cat. So I emailed the author of the story, Jack Chipman — who can also be an expert on California pottery inside the twentieth Century and has a robust number of books on the topic (affiliate hyperlink) — to see if he knew. And he responded correct once more! He wrote:
Hello there Pam,
The designer of this cat (and a few completely different Brayton animals) was Letitia Ann Dowd.
I do know little about her, nonetheless she was positively ultra-modern in her ceramic design work.
Woot! Thanks, Jack!
Bauer Pottery says that the cat was launched 1960. By that date, the Brayton-Laguna’s founders had died. So if the 1960 date is true, this mid century fashionable cat was developed beneath newer administration.
Substitute: Jack study this story and wrote once more:
Pam,
….I think about this cat was issued a bit later than 1960.
Perhaps mid-1960’s…which means a extremely temporary manufacturing.
Thanks as soon as extra,
Jack
So there you go: A extremely temporary genuine manufacturing!
